As of October 23, 2026, Argentine federal judge Marcelo Martinez de Giorgi dropped a criminal investigation into President Javier Milei and his sister Karina Milei over their involvement in a cryptocurrency scandal involving the $LIBRA token. The probe, initiated in February 2025 after Milei promoted the crypto coin on X (formerly Twitter), was dismissed when prosecutor Eduardo Taiano requested its dismissal due to insufficient evidence of fraud. Judge Martinez de Giorgi ruled that investor losses and price fluctuations were not enough to establish criminal wrongdoing. At the time of the currency's crash, Milei had denied any connection to $LIBRA and claimed he acted "in good faith."
