Quick Summary

Miguel Rojas, a recently retired infielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers, spoke on MLB Network about his close friendship with four teammates: Kiké Hernández, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Max Muncy. The group was nicknamed "viejitos" by younger players due to their age but proved their worth in the 2025 World Series when Rojas hit a game-tying home run in Game 7. Although the Dodgers did not win the championship again after that season, they still had an impressive regular season record of 100 wins before being eliminated in the NLCS. Rojas will play for the Tiburones de La Guaira in Venezuela but won't return to the Dodgers in 2027; however, Hernández and his "viejitos" friends Freeman, Betts, and Muncy remain with the team.

Story summary

Miguel Rojas announced on MLB Network that after the Dodgers were eliminated from the National League Championship Series, his 2026 season would be his last in Major League Baseball (MLB). Rojas had been a key figure for the team since returning to them in 2023, contributing significantly to back-to-back World Series titles. He highlighted his close friendship with teammates Kiké Hernández, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Max Muncy, referring to themselves as "viejitos" or "old guys," despite their ability to perform at a high level.

Rojas, known for hitting the game-tying home run in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, also noted that the Dodgers' aging roster had still managed 100 regular-season wins. Although they fell short of winning another World Series in 2026, Rojas expressed pride in their achievements and hinted at his next step with the Tiburones de La Guaira club.
