A 28-year-old woman named Katie Suarez was critically injured after being stabbed multiple times in the neck while jogging on a popular waterfront path near Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue in Bath Beach, Brooklyn, around 8 p.m. on Friday night. She was training for the upcoming New York City Marathon and had been declared brain dead as of Saturday. The attack occurred along Shore Parkway between Bay 17th Street and Bay 8 Street, a location known for its high foot traffic from joggers, bikers, and fishermen.
Suarez worked at TD Bank in Gravesend and was planning to meet her parents after work when she was attacked. Her family describes her as kind and professional, with ties to Brooklyn College and her native El Salvador. The NYPD is actively seeking public assistance to identify the attacker and understand the circumstances of the assault, particularly for any witnesses seen around 7:56 pm to 8:12 pm near the bike path along the Belt Parkway.
Her father, drawing a parallel to Karina Vetrano’s case, urged everyone to take action against such crimes. Suarez remains on life support at NYU Langone Hospital in critical condition.
