Point Of Law, trained by Ciaron Maher, won the $10.2 million Melbourne Cup on November 3, 2026, at Flemington Racecourse in Victoria, Australia. Ethan Brown, a jockey from Alice Springs, rode Point Of Law to victory. The horse had been previously owned by King Charles before being sold earlier this year for an undisclosed sum. Royal Supremacy led early but was overtaken on the straight; Zahrann and Juja Kibo secured second and third places respectively in a photo finish.
This win marks significant milestones: it is only the second time an Australian jockey has won the prestigious race after riding a horse owned by royalty, and it is also the first Melbourne Cup victory for Point Of Law’s current owner. Additionally, the Chris Waller-trained Asterix was scratched on the morning of the race due to a mishap involving the application of an anti-inflammatory oil that is not allowed on race days.
