On November 4, 2026, Ashley Moody won the special Senate election for Marco Rubio’s old seat in Florida, defeating Angie Nixon, a progressive Democrat endorsed by former President Barack Obama. Moody received 50.7% of the vote compared to Nixon's 48.2%, according to The Associated Press. Despite being an underdog in the primary, Nixon gained national attention and support from progressives but struggled with her opponent’s fundraising advantage. Moody raised over $20 million, while Nixon raised about $8.5 million. The race was significant as Republicans needed to maintain their Senate majority amid a shift towards conservative politics in traditionally competitive Florida.
