Story summary

Republican Ashley Moody defeated Angie Nixon, a progressive and Democratic Socialist, in Florida's special Senate election on November 7, 2026. Moody received 50.7% of the vote compared to Nixon’s 48.2%, securing her position for the remaining two years of the term until the next election in 2028. Nixon had been endorsed by former President Barack Obama and campaigned on issues such as Medicare for All, abolishing ICE, and raising the federal minimum wage. Despite initial buzz from progressives nationwide due to Nixon's upset victory in the Democratic primary, Moody prevailed with significant funding and messaging against DSA policies.
