On November 4, 2026, a bus carrying workers for a data centre company crashed on Highway 39 south of Mackenzie, British Columbia, resulting in serious injuries. The crash site is located approximately 180 kilometers north of Prince George and occurred early Wednesday morning when the bus left the roadway. Northern Health Authority declared a Code Orange mass casualty event at the Mackenzie and District Hospital, which has five emergency beds, due to the multiple victims. As of November 5, 2026, 15 patients were released from hospitals while 5 remain hospitalized following the incident. The highway was expected to be closed for several hours to allow emergency personnel to provide medical care and investigate the scene. Poor cellphone coverage in the remote area complicated initial response efforts.
