On September 14, Lau Wee Seng, a 50-year-old Singaporean climber, died on Mount Manaslu in Nepal while descending from around 6,000 metres after an acclimatization rotation. He was part of a team planning to scale the mountain during the autumn climbing season and had arrived at Samagaun on September 7. According to Pemba Sherpa of 8K Expeditions, Lau felt unwell and passed away that morning, becoming the first foreign fatality of the season. His body was being airlifted for transport.
