Venice is considering raising its tourist entry fee as a measure against overtourism. Currently set at €5 to €10 per day, the city council believes this amount may no longer be sufficient to deter excessive visitors. Budget and taxation councillor Michele Zuin proposed increasing the daily charge to up to €30 (S$44) for 2027, with some discussions suggesting a possible maximum of €50, though officials might settle on €30 as the upper limit. The fee was first introduced in 2024 and applies only to day-trippers, offering early booking discounts and exemptions for children under 14. In 2026, the fee operated on specific days from April 3 to July 26, between 8:30 AM and 4 PM, but plans are now in place to extend its application period.
