The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is developing a two-year engagement plan for Venezuela that focuses on electricity and social protection needs. This initiative comes after the IDB halted new loans to Venezuela in May 2018 due to payment arrears, and it currently has about $2 billion in outstanding Venezuelan loans. During an interview with Reuters, IDB President Ilan Goldfajn stated that they are reengaging by sending missions to assess the country's situation and devise a plan for future engagement without specifying how Venezuela’s debt will be addressed or when new financing might resume. The IDB is the largest development lender in Latin America and the Caribbean with 48 member countries, including 26 borrowing members in the region.
