Sephora is moving its store from Ninth Avenue to 401 West 14th Street in New York City's Meatpacking District, right next to an iconic Apple store. The new lease covers 4,200 square feet on the ground floor of a building owned by Taconic Partners and Nuveen Real Estate. Sephora plans to open its new location in the first quarter of 2027.
Taconic Vice President Michael Adelstein noted that this move highlights the significance of having a highly visible storefront for retail success. The Meatpacking District, especially the corner of Ninth Avenue and 14th Street, is considered one of the most sought-after shopping areas globally. According to Cushman & Wakefield, retail availability in the district decreased by six percentage points year-over-year, marking the steepest decline among tracked submarkets. Average asking rents for retail space increased by 10.3%. Taconic acquired 401 W. 14th St. in 2005 and transformed it into a premier office and retail property.
