Mainland Chinese students pursuing degrees in Hong Kong are increasingly renting student residences, despite the higher costs. A Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) student named Qi Zhonghao spent a year living in a subdivided unit before moving to an off-campus housing facility due to limited on-campus options. He noted that rents for single rooms with private bathrooms in subdivided units near CUHK range from HK$7,000 to HK$8,000 (US$890) per month. However, dedicated student residences offer better convenience, security, and a more stable cost structure, which offset the higher prices and longer commutes for some students like Qi Zhonghao.
