A disgruntled car owner in New York City slapped a neon-green "shame sticker" onto a Department of Sanitation (DSNY) vehicle as a protest against the city's alternate side parking enforcement. This incident occurred on Monday when Catherina Gioino, a news editor for Fortune, noticed and posted about it on X. According to a DSNY spokesperson, the sticker was originally intended for another car but was instead placed on the sanitation vehicle by its owner in frustration. The city began using these "shame stickers" in August after Manhattan Councilwoman Gale Brewer sponsored legislation allowing their use again. However, this practice has faced criticism from New Yorkers and lawmakers who argue it amounts to vandalism and is a nuisance to remove.
