On September 22, a Albanian court suspended Vlora Hyseni, the country's spy chief, and ordered her placed under house arrest on suspicion of disclosing classified information related to a corruption case at the National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI). AKSHI manages Albania's digital public services and IT infrastructure. The special prosecution office SPAK has been investigating the misuse of public funds at AKSHI involving numerous state officials and businesspeople.
Hyseni, originally from Kosovo, had served as head of SHISH since 2023 after previously working as deputy intelligence chief in Kosovo. Prime Minister Edi Rama, who was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, stated he had already relieved Hyseni of her duties and would appoint a new head of the intelligence agency upon consultation with the president.
