Camilo Doval, a former Yankees reliever, has been designated for assignment by the Pittsburgh Pirates after struggling during his tenure with both teams. In 2024, Doval had a 4.82 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 22 games with the Yankees. This year, his performance continued to decline, ending with a 4.54 ERA and an 8.8 strikeouts per nine innings rate, which was the lowest in his career. The Yankees initially acquired Doval from the San Francisco Giants along with David Bednar (who went to the Pirates) as part of moves intended to solidify their bullpen late in games. However, while Bednar flourished, Doval struggled. Ahead of this year's trade deadline, the Yankees traded him to the Pirates for minor league prospects Omar Alfonzo and Luis Cruz. Despite his efforts, Doval's performance did not meet expectations, leading to his DFA status.
