On October 1, RTX’s Raytheon unit won a five-year contract worth up to US$24.4 billion (S$31.2 billion) from the US Navy to produce Standard Missile-6 interceptors. The Pentagon awarded this contract amid concerns about depleted munitions stockpiles due to conflicts in the Middle East. This latest deal follows similar large contracts, such as a US$20.7 billion provisional multi-year agreement for AMRAAM air-to-air missiles and a US$58.6 billion Patriot interceptor contract given to Lockheed Martin earlier this year. These production agreements aim to boost contractor output and align with the Trump administration's focus on prioritizing weapons production over shareholder returns.
