Nigel Farage, leader of Britain's Reform UK party, and Jordan Bardella, chief of France's National Rally (RN) party, have signed a memorandum of understanding to send asylum seekers who arrive in Britain in small boats back to France. The agreement, which is intended to take effect if the two parties win power, has drawn criticism from several French presidential election candidates. Edouard Philippe, a former prime minister and conservative candidate for the Horizons party, called it a "U-turn" for RN, suggesting that its presidential candidate, Marine Le Pen, may not be in agreement with the pact. Another critic, Gabriel Attal, leader of the center-right Renaissance party, accused RN of submitting to foreign interests. The pact is seen as an unusual move by RN, which has traditionally been against sending migrants back to their country of origin.
