Thai authorities warned on Monday that another devastating storm is expected, raising the flood-related death toll since mid-September to 31. The Thailand Meteorological Department forecasted thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rain across much of upper Thailand from October 2 through 4, increasing flash flooding risks in low-lying areas. Very heavy rains are also predicted for central, eastern, and southern regions, including the capital, Bangkok, over the weekend. Last week's torrential rain in Bangkok forced thousands to evacuate and caused severe disruptions; however, conditions have largely improved despite some lower-lying areas still being inundated. To mitigate further flooding risks, Bangkok authorities drained water from main canals to increase their capacity and deployed additional water pumps in high-risk zones.
