In early 2025, Coca-Cola attempted to sell Costa Coffee, a British coffeehouse it had acquired for $5.1 billion in 2018. After facing lukewarm interest from private-equity bidders earlier this year, the company is now once again exploring options to divest Costa due to difficulty growing the business since acquisition. One strategic buyer considered acquiring Costa but ultimately passed on it because of valuation and strategic concerns. Costa Coffee currently has 2,700 outlets in the UK and Ireland, employing around 20,000 people, and is targeting younger consumers by expanding its menu offerings to include more iced drinks and matcha beverages.
