Ten years after the Soranet scandal in South Korea, new illegal sites are still emerging with non-consensual sexually explicit videos and images of women despite tougher laws. Last month, a man was detained for running an alleged Soranet offshoot that shared over 2,000 sexually explicit videos, including deepfakes and illegally filmed material. The site reportedly also recruited participants for partner-swapping sessions and encouraged sharing photos of family members and acquaintances for body ratings. This resurgence highlights the ongoing challenges in deterring such activities, policing online spaces, and shifting societal attitudes towards women's rights in South Korea.
