On October 8, Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro secured the endorsement from third-place election finisher Augusto Cury for the October 25 runoff against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Cury, a psychiatrist and author who received 2.89% of the valid votes in Sunday's first round, campaigned under the slogan "Centered on what matters," avoiding identification with either political left or right. Among the top five finishers, Ronaldo Caiado also endorsed Bolsonaro earlier in the week, while Renan Santos said he would not endorse either candidate. In the initial round, Flavio Bolsonaro slightly outperformed expectations by securing 47.03% of the votes compared to Lula's 45.16%.
