Jordan Yap, a 30-year-old Melbourne resident, was found dead in Peru after going missing during a solo hiking trip through the Huayhuash mountain range near Lima. His family reported him missing when he failed to check into a hotel and missed his flight from Lima on September 15. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it provided consular assistance to Yap's family. A social media post by friends and family expressed gratitude towards search teams, police, and others who contributed to the effort. The Huayhuash circuit is known for its challenging terrain at high altitudes in the Andes mountains.
