Story summary

In October 2026, CBS News reported that American consumers were encountering increased expenses for essential items like gas and groceries, contrary to the price reduction promises made by then-President Trump during his 2024 campaign. According to CBS MoneyWatch reporter Megan Cerullo, despite Trump's assurances to lower costs, prices have continued to rise, impacting everyday Americans significantly. This discrepancy highlights a notable gap between political pledges and actual economic outcomes for consumers in the United States.
