As of November 5, 2026, Jennifer Balcarras, 48, and her daughter Selah Reed, 20, are confirmed dead after a suspected grizzly bear attack near Bella Coola, British Columbia. The remains were discovered on November 3 in the Snooka West Trail area. A search was initiated when they were reported missing on November 1. Authorities now believe that more than one grizzly bear may have been involved in the fatal incident. The British Columbia Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating, with a curfew imposed on Bella Coola to ensure public safety during the search for any potentially dangerous bears.
