The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, expressed deep concern on September 24 about the rising civilian casualties in Yemen's ongoing conflict. The situation escalated with the Houthi takeover of Yemen’s Red Sea coast, leading to hundreds of deaths and increased global trade risks through the Bab al-Mandab strait. As a result, over 130,000 people have been displaced, and the UN predicts this number could surge past 230,000 in coming months. Turk emphasized that civilians should not be targeted and their safety must remain the top priority amid the conflict between Iran-backed Houthis and Saudi Arabia-supported government forces. His office reported at least 125 civilian casualties since early August, including the documented deaths of 32 individuals, 15 of whom were children.
