On September 25, Loik Le Priol, a former member of the now-banned far-right group GUD (Groupe Union Defense) in France, was found guilty of murdering Federico Aramburu, a former Argentina rugby international player. The murder occurred on March 19, 2022, near Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris after an altercation at a bar. Le Priol was sentenced to 26 years in prison and described by the court as "animated by the will to kill." His associate, Romain Bouvier, also formerly associated with GUD, was convicted of attempted murder and received a sentence of 19 years in prison. CCTV footage showed Aramburu and his friend sitting at a bar opposite Le Priol and Bouvier before the incident. The court described both men as forming "a deadly pair united by fascination with weapons and violence." Aramburu, aged 42 at the time of his death, had played over 20 matches for Argentina's national team, including in the 2007 World Cup where he scored against France.
