On September 30, Russian air strikes killed three people, including a child, and injured another seven in and around the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. According to Tymur Tkachenko, Kyiv regional governor, the attacks involved both missiles and drones, damaging infrastructure facilities, houses, warehouses, and cars. The Kyiv City Military Administration reported two deaths and four injuries specifically within the city limits. Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted that fires broke out in private homes as well as a store and warehouse during the assault.
In response to these attacks, both Romania and Poland, neighboring EU and NATO members, scrambled military jets to safeguard their airspace from potential threats. Additionally, Ukraine carried out a drone attack on the Russian Samara region, an important oil-producing area approximately 1,100 km southeast of Moscow, causing damage to private residences there.
